Atrocious Journalism
Media Critique

Recently, a cartoonist named Mark Knight tweeted a cartoon of his portraying Serena Williams smashing her racket on the ground. He enhanced the size of her lips and drew a pacifier by her feet, her tongue sticking out as she jumped on top of her racket in defiance. The official is shown in his tower speaking with who is believed to be Osaka, except she's white for some reason. The official is asking the skinny white woman who is difficult to believe to be the Haitian-Japanese U.S. Open winner Osaka, "Can you just let her win?".
Obviously, the cartoon is astonishingly racist, but Mark Knight argues it's just satire. He blames the PC crowd. But, he and the Herald Sun, the newspaper that published this abomination, violate several rules of journalism. So many that it's atrocious.
He and the Herald Sun disregarded the value of being inclusive and representing everyone. They failed to represent Osaka, who is portrayed as white instead of Haitian-Japanese-- far from white.
This cartoon is not fair: another yardstick. It just completely degrades Serena to the angry black woman stereotype. In many other categories, it touches on out-of-bounds foolishness. This is a piece of terrible journalism.
